Role

UX Designer

Rivet is IU's new design system. I was part of the initial launch team that saw Rivet from pre-alpha, alpha, beta, all the way through to a full, state-wide launch.

My contributions ranged heavily, as I touched all areas of the product. The main themes of my work were focused on adoption, growth, component creation, holistic improvements, user education, and accessibility.

Highlights

RIVET

Rivet, IU's Statewide Design System

During my time at IU, I had the pleasure of launching Rivet - IU’s new design system.

As a holistic member of the framework team, I didn’t have a singular role. My role touched all areas, including component creation, UX innovation, user research, growth/adoption improvements, component iterations & maintenance, framework-wide pattern improvements, translating designs into HTML/CSS, creating and implementing Rivet’s first documentation and API site, and much more.

Notable contributions:

‌• Created a set of UI kits within several design softwares that would allow designers of all levels to prototype applications using Rivet

‌• Created a set of example/reference concepts utilizing Rivet's features by redesigning various applications used throughout Indiana University by students, staff, and faculty with the goal of increasing understanding & adoption

‌• Redesigned Indiana University's Bursar bill/pay website, timeclock system, student application site, and several administrative products

‌• Conducted research on several product spaces & applications in order to conduct an accurate redesign utilizing the same priorities and business goals.

• Visited all 13 campuses in the state to interview stakeholders, share redesign concepts, and drive adoption & understanding

‌• Created several dozen components. My contributions to the component library ultimately almost tripled its size

‌• Created custom graphics, icons, and visual branding to be used on IU’s User Experience office's website

‌• Designed and conceptualized various web features to be included on our UX office's website, such as a roadmap detailing Rivet's progress over time, a release changelog, and more

‌• Generated new content for and maintained the UXO website

‌• Generated and conceptualized interface designs for use on the current UXO website

‌• Translated wireframes and static visual designs into functional code

After launch, Rivet quickly became the design system standard for all 13 IU Campuses in Indiana. We quickly saw a dramatic increase in application adoption, website adoption, and product consistency.

I'm happy to walk through all of my contributions in more detail, please reach out with any questions.
